A rhinoplasty or “nose reshaping” is a procedure used to improve the appearance and shape of your nose. The nose is a complex intricate part of the face that affects overall facial harmony and balance. Dr. Christopoulos will guide you through a careful evaluation of your facial features to best achieve your goals while maintaining a natural and balanced aesthetic.
A rhinoplasty surgery can reduce or increase the size of your nose, alter the size and shape of your tip, smooth a prominent hump, and alter the size and shape of your nostrils. It may also correct an altered airway that may help relieve some breathing problems.
Ideal candidates for a Rhinoplasty are patients who wish to correct:
Overall size of the nose in relation to facial balance
The profile of the nose (prominent hump or depression seen on side view)
The width of the nose
The tip of the nose ( bulbous, drooping or enlarged)
The shape or size of the nostrils
Overall nasal asymmetry or deviation
About the Procedure
Dr. Christopoulos performs her surgeries in a fully accredited outpatient surgical facility. The procedure can take anywhere from 1-2 hours, although complicated procedures may take longer.
Dr. Christopoulos, in conjunction with an anesthesiologist, will use either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia to keep you comfortable and safe during your procedure.
Dr. Christopoulos will use either an open or a closed approach for your procedure. A closed rhinoplasty involves a small incision inside the nose, with no visible external incision. In an open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made across the columella, the tissue between the nostrils. With both methods, Dr. Christopoulos will gently lift the soft tissues of your nose to reshape and sculpt the underlying bone and cartilage to their desired result. When your surgery is complete, a small splint will be applied across the bridge of your nose to help maintain its new shape. The splint, along with any external sutures, are removed within the first week.
Recovery and Results
The length of recovery depends on the type and complexity of rhinoplasty surgery performed and the healing process does vary from individual to individual. It is natural to expect some stuffiness as well as bruising and swelling of the nose and tissues around the eyes for a few days. Most patients are able to return to work or school after one week. It is important to realize that although the majority of the swelling resolves over the first few weeks, it may take up to one year or more to appreciate your final result. Schedule a consultation today with Dr. Christopoulos to discuss further any questions you may have and to see which is the correct procedure for you.*
