Vaginal Rejuvenation can refer to several procedures: Labiaplasty is a very powerful tool to reshape and/or reduce the size of large or asymmetric inner or outer labia. Vulvaplasty refers to a reshaping and recontouring of the vulva, or outer vaginal region. Many women who are bothered by enlarged, fatty or asymmetric labia, whether a result of genetics, childbirth, weight gain and loss, or the natural aging process now have an option to give them back their self confidence and comfort. Dr. Christopoulos will guide you though this process in a careful and sensitive manner, to create for you a more symmetric, and refined contour.
Ideal Candidates for Vaginal Rejuvenation are women who:
Are bothered by the asymmetric or enlarged size of their inner labia
Have discomfort during sex or other physical activities
Are self conscious of their appearance in bathing suits and other types of clothing
Wish a sleeker, more refined contour to their labia
Wish a reduction in the size of their mons pubis
About the Procedure
Dr. Christopoulos performs her surgeries in a fully accredited outpatient surgical facility or in the private comfort of our office. The procedure can take anywhere from 1-2 hours, depending on the technique used and each patient’s individual anatomy.
Anesthesia
Dr. Christopoulos, in conjunction with an anesthesiologist, will use either oral anesthesia or IV sedation to keep you comfortable and safe during your procedure.
Incisions
Incisions are discreetly hidden along the edge of the inner labia or along the inside of the outer labia. If a reduction in the size or bulk of the mons is required, this can be achieved through either liposuction or surgical resection, also via inconspicuous scars hidden in natural skin creases.
Recovery and Results
The length of recovery and healing process does vary from individual to individual. It is natural to expect some bruising, swelling and minor discomfort after your procedure. Bed rest is usually recommended the day of your procedure and most patients can return to work within 3-7 days. Dr. Christopoulos will advise you to refrain from strenuous activity and sexual intercourse for several weeks after your procedure.
Labiaplasty FAQ
How Do I Know If I’m A Candidate For A Labiaplasty?
A good candidate for labiaplasty is typically someone experiencing physical discomfort or emotional distress due to enlarged or asymmetrical labia minora. They may also seek the procedure to enhance the aesthetic appearance of their genitalia, improve comfort during physical activities and intercourse, or alleviate irritation and chafing. Ideal candidates are in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the outcomes of the surgery. Consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon, like Niki Christopoulos, MD FACS, who specializes in genital rejuvenation, can help determine suitability based on individual concerns and goals, ensuring the procedure aligns with their desired outcomes and medical considerations.
What Are The Reasons Women Choose To Undergo Labiaplasty?
Women choose to undergo labiaplasty for various reasons, including physical discomfort or pain caused by enlarged labia minora, which can interfere with physical activities or clothing fit. Another common reason is to improve the aesthetic appearance of the genital area, addressing issues of asymmetry or excess tissue. Some women opt for labiaplasty to enhance self-confidence and alleviate self-consciousness during intimate moments. Additionally, reducing irritation and chafing, as well as enhancing sexual satisfaction, are motivations for seeking this procedure. Each woman’s decision is personal, driven by their unique concerns and desires for both functional improvement and aesthetic enhancement.
What Is The Recovery Process Like After Labiaplasty?
After labiaplasty, the recovery process typically involves initial discomfort and swelling that subsides over a few weeks. Patients are advised to rest and avoid strenuous activities during the initial phase. Pain medication may be prescribed to manage discomfort. It’s essential to keep the surgical site clean and follow post-operative care instructions provided by the surgeon. Most women can return to work within a few days to a week, depending on the extent of the procedure and individual healing. Full recovery, including the resolution of swelling and sensitivity, may take several weeks to a few months for optimal results.
Will Labiaplasty Affect Sexual Sensation?
Labiaplasty typically focuses on reshaping the labia minora or majora for aesthetic or functional reasons, such as reducing discomfort. While the procedure aims to enhance appearance and potentially reduce physical discomfort during activities like exercise or intercourse, its impact on sexual sensation can vary. In some cases, women report increased comfort during sexual activity after labiaplasty. However, it’s crucial to discuss expectations and potential outcomes with a qualified surgeon beforehand. They can provide personalized insights based on the specific technique used and individual anatomy to ensure the procedure aligns with desired outcomes while addressing any concerns about sexual sensation.
How Long Do The Results Of Labiaplasty Last?
The longevity of labiaplasty results varies among individuals. Generally, once the healing process is complete, the outcomes of labiaplasty can be long-lasting. Factors such as age, hormonal changes, and lifestyle choices can influence the longevity of results. Maintaining a stable weight and avoiding activities that strain the genital area can help preserve the outcome. It’s essential to consult with a qualified surgeon who can provide realistic expectations based on the specific technique used and individual circumstances. Regular follow-ups and adherence to post-operative care instructions also contribute to sustaining the results over time.
