Liposuction and Liposculpture

Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Niki Christopoulos uses the most advanced liposuction procedures to remove those stubborn pockets of excess fat from almost any area of the body. Liposuction is used to slim, reshape and contour specific areas of the body that are resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction can be used to treat the abdomen, back and flanks, neck, upper arms, thighs, buttocks and knees, calves and ankles.

Ideal Candidates for Liposuction are Patients who:
  • Are overall healthy and are normal weight to slightly overweight
  • Have overall good skin tone and elasticity
  • Have realistic expectations

It is important to remember that liposuction is not a substitute for major weight loss. It is ideal for patients who have stubborn areas of fat deposits and disproportionate body contours that are resistant to diet and exercise.

About the Procedure

Dr. Christopoulos performs her surgeries in a fully accredited outpatient surgical facility. The time required for liposuction can vary greatly, depending on the technique used, each patient’s individual anatomy and the number of body areas being treated.

Anesthesia

Dr. Christopoulos, in conjunction with an anesthesiologist, will use either oral anesthesia, intravenous sedation or general anesthesia to keep you comfortable and safe during your procedure.

Incisions

Liposuction is performed through small inconspicuous incisions hidden in natural skin creases. Dr. Christopoulos then injects a “wetting solution” into the area being treated. This solution contains anesthetic medication as well as medication to help minimize bruising and bleeding.

Recovery and Results

The length of recovery depends on the type of procedure you have performed and the healing process does vary from individual to individual. It is natural to expect some bruising, swelling and numbness after your procedure. Most patients are able to resume daily activities and return to work within a few days. Prolonged swelling after liposuction is, however, typical and it can take several weeks before you see a significant change and up to 12 months to see your final result. It is important to maintain your healthy diet and exercise regimen during the healing process because substantial weight gain will alter your result.
Dr. Christopoulos will advise you to refrain from strenuous activity for a few weeks after your surgery and will also guide you on the proper type of compression garments that may be necessary to minimize swelling and improve your results. Schedule a consultation today with Dr. Christopoulos to discuss further any questions you may have and to determine which type of Liposuction is correct for you.
