Otoplasty (Ear Reshaping) chicago

Otoplasty (Ear Reshaping)

Otoplasty, or “ear reshaping” is a procedure to improve or alter the shape, position or proportion of the ear to create a more balanced and proportionate look. It can correct a defect that was present at birth, or one that was caused by injury. Prominent ears or otherwise misshapen ears can have a profound effect on one’s appearance and self esteem. Dr. Christopoulos will use a variety of techniques to create a natural, more balanced shape and create ears that are proportionate to the face.

Ideal candidates for Ear Surgery are patients who wish to correct:

  • Prominent ears, or ears that stick out too far from the side of the head
  • Abnormally large ear lobes
  • Dissatisfaction with previous ear surgery
  • Split or stretched out ear lobes from earing use

About the Procedure

Dr. Christopoulos performs her ear surgeries in the comfort of the office as an outpatient procedure. Ear surgery generally lasts about 1 hour.

Anesthesia

Dr. Christopoulos will use local and/or oral anesthesia to keep you comfortable and safe during your procedure.

Incisions

If prominent ears are the problem, Dr. Christopoulos will use small incisions placed behind the ear that are hidden in a natural skin crease. Through these incisions the cartilage is contoured and molded to the desired shape and size. If the deformity is overly large ear lobes or split ear lobes, small incisions are made in the ear lobe to correct the abnormality.

Recovery and Results

The length of recovery depends on the type of procedure performed and the healing process does vary from individual to individual. Although your results are usually visible immediately, it is natural to expect some mild swelling and tenderness. The sutures are removed at 7-14 days after the procedure. Schedule a consultation today with Dr. Christopoulos to discuss further any questions you may have and to see which procedure is the correct one for you.
