Fillers, also known as dermal fillers or soft tissue fillers, are a type of minimally invasive aesthetic injection that is used to restore volume, fill in deeper wrinkles, improve contours of the face and aging hands, and lessen the appearance of depressed scars. As we age, our faces lose fat and volume, which together with thinning skin, sun damage and genetics, all contribute to an aged and hollow appearance.
Fillers are used in a quite safe and effective manner to improve facial contours, sculpt the cheeks, plump thinning lips and restore a more youthful, fuller and smoother appearance. Dermal fillers are quite popular because of their immediate results with little to no downtime and relatively few side effects.
Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, Voluma and Belotero are all FDA approved non-permanent fillers composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in the body that is highly compatible and therefore requires no pre-treatment testing. Results can last anywhere from 6-24 months, depending on the product used and location it is placed.

About the Procedure
All filler injections are performed in the office setting, as an outpatient procedure. Each treatment can take from 15 min to 1 hour, depending on the area or areas treated. You will likely see your results immediately following the procedure, however, many patients do experience mild swelling or temporary bruising. While there is no downtime with facial fillers in terms of resuming normal activities, every patient is unique in their healing capabilities and the amount of swelling will depend on the area treated and the type of filler used.
